How To Duplicate WordPress Menu?

Today, we’re tackling a common yet sometimes tricky task: duplicating a WordPress menu.

Imagine you have a WordPress-based website and need to create a new menu, similar to an existing one but with a few tweaks.

The question is, how do you do it efficiently, especially if your menu is extensive?

The Challenge of Large Menus

Let’s say the existing menu has four links. You could recreate it from scratch, but what if it has 40 or more links?

Manually dragging and dropping each link for a new menu is a time-consuming task.

The ideal solution? Copy or duplicate the menu and then modify it.

Duplicate Menu with the Menu Duplicator Plugin

Duplicating a WordPress menu is surprisingly simple, thanks to the Menu Duplicator plugin. Here’s how you can leverage it:

Simple Answer

The easiest method to replicate a menu in WordPress involves using the Duplicate Menu plugin.

First, activate the plugin.

Then, navigate to Appearance and select Duplicate Menu. Here, choose the menu you want to duplicate, give it a new, distinct name, and click on the Duplicate Menu button.

You can find your newly created menu by going to Appearance, then Menus.

Step By Step Guide

Step 1: Installing the Plugin

Navigate to the ‘Plugins’ section in your WordPress admin panel and click ‘Add New.’

Search for ‘Menu Duplicator.’ This handy plugin allows you to quickly duplicate any WordPress menu with a user-friendly interface.

It retains all existing menu items and their settings, making your task much easier.

Step 2: Using the Duplicate Menu Feature

Now in your Dashboard go to “Tools” > “Duplicate menu”

Select your existing menu (in our case, the ‘Main 1’), give a new name to your duplicated menu, and hit the ‘Duplicate’ button.

Step 3: Finalizing the New Menu

After duplicating, head back to the ‘Menus’ section.

You’ll find your new menu created alongside the original.

Select your new menu to customize it as needed and save your changes.

Step 4: Tidying Up

Since this plugin served its purpose and you might not need it regularly, it’s a good practice to keep your site clean.

Go back to ‘Installed Plugins,’ deactivate the ‘Duplicate Menu’ plugin, and delete it. This keeps your site streamlined and efficient.

Conclusion: Solving the Problem Gracefully

There you have it, a quick and straightforward way to duplicate and customize menus in WordPress. No complex steps, no wasted time, just a simple solution for your website needs.
